Spring is here! When the temperature starts inching closer to 70 degrees, it’s the perfect time to get some spring-cleaning items checked off your to do list! See below for a helpful check list to help you prepare your home for the season ahead!
- Take a stroll outside of your home and be on the lookout for tripping hazards. Check for uneven walkways, loose banisters or stairs that have damage.
- Check for cracks in concrete slabs or aggregate. You want to be sure that you prevent any possible water damage.
- Clean your gutters & downspouts. Remove any debris so that all water can be properly diverted away from your home.
- Be on the lookout for low areas in the yard and add some compacted soil to help prevent flooding and damage.
- Remove and clear away any damaged tree branches that are close to your home, fence or other structures.
- Clear any debris that has collected in and around of your outdoor air conditioning unit. If you have bushes that have overgrown, it is a good idea to trim them back so the unity can function at its best.
- It’s a great time to schedule maintenance for your HVAC system.
- When you head inside for some spring clean, make sure your drier is free of lint. Do a thorough cleaning and be sure to pay attention to not only the filter but also the vent hose. Dryer lint is one of the leading causes of house fires, so making sure your drier lint free is important!
- While you are in the laundry room take a minute to check the hoses on your washing machine for any signs of wear. If you still have rubber hoses, it is a good idea to upgrade to braided steel hoses.
- Take a look at the drip pan under your washing machine. If it looks aged or is cracked, it may be a good time to have it replaced.
- Replace the air filters on your HVAC system. This will help to keep the air circulating throughout your home cleaner and prolong the life of your HVAC system.
- Examine your windows and make sure they are in good working order. Look for cracks in the caulking. If you find dried out caulking, you may want to consider having it replaced.
- Check your attic for proper ventilation and debris such as birds’ nests. You want to make sure that you keep the air flowing to help keep cooling costs low.
